Fear

While fear is a natural protection mechanism, helping to keep us safe, it can also be a sign of hormonal imbalance.

According to Dr. Mercola, severe cases of irrational fear, such as an inability to leave one's house, can be caused by a severely dysregulated endocrine system, specifically by abnormal levels of corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH), which is produced by the hypothalamus. According to him, CHR controls fear through stimulating adrenal gland secretions. Bringing the endocrine system back into balance would then seem to be key in reducing fear. Start, for example, by reading on adrenal fatigue.

Copper toxicity may also be a factor.

Please note that seeing a doctor and a mental health professional is important as well in serious cases of fear.

Fibrocystic Breast Disease (FBD)

Also called: fibrocystic changes in the breasts.

Lumps in the breasts, consisting of fibrous tissue are the main symptom of fibrocystic breast disease.

Non-cancerous lumps in the breasts can be caused by fibroids and/or cysts. Fibrosis is the formation of scar-like (fibrous) tissue and cysts are fluid-filled sacs.

Both fibroids and cysts can cause symptoms which feel worse just before the woman's menstrual period is about to begin.

"EFAs - especially [omega 3] - and vitamin E are helpful in FBD. An optimum intake of minerals and vitamins is also required. This can be accomplished with whole foods, juices, or high-dose multi-mineral and multivitamin supplements. Iodine is also helpful. One the negative side: coffee, cola, tea, chocolate, and other sources of methylxanthines should be avoided." - Udo Erasmus: Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill, p. 350

Fibroids

"Fibroids may [...] respond to [omega 3] fatty acids. They may also be helped by treatment with special forms of iodine, and may respond to some herbal combinations. Much is still unknown about fibroids.

"Some researchers have suggested that like endometriosis, fibroids may involve allergies and/or candida yeast (or even viruses or other micro-organisms) in their cause. It is hard to imagine that the considerable disorganization of tissue growth presented by these two conditions can happen without some powerful disorganizing (reorganizing) influence similar to that which takes place in warts caused by viruses.

"If allergies are involved, they must be treated. If organisms are involved, they must be treated. Underlying causes that allow infections to take root may include allergies, compromised immune function, nutritional deficiencies, and toxicity. All of these must be addressed.

"As in all degenerative conditions, it is best to make use of a complete and balanced natural approach..."

- Udo Erasmus, in 'Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill', p. 351

Fibromyalgia

According to Dr. Mercola, this condition arises when the protective benefits of normal cortisol levels are lost due to adrenal fatigue. So it is in effect a hormone imbalance. Please see the entry here on adrenal fatigue.

Surefoodliving.com reports that the symptoms of fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and gluten intolerance can be surprisingly similar, and suggests/ implies that all of these conditions may be caused by wheat and/or gluten. One of the many treatment agents/ preservatives, etc., may be the cause if you find that not all bread causes symptoms but you feel better when avoiding all grains (and processed foods).

Note that there may also be a link between fluoride-poisoning and fibromyalgia.

Food Allergies

Some food allergies may be detected by using The Pulse Test, which can be done free at home.

Raw food diet has been reported to cure allergies by many people, and David Wolfe has reported that he cured his allergies by taking one teaspoon of good-quality natural salt in water every day. Note: This will not work with table salt. The reason natural salt, such as Himalayan rock salt or good quality sea salt, may help with allergies is because it has many minerals within it. Some researchers and nutritionists believe that mineral deficiencies are the cause of most, if not all, diseases of the human body.

Supplementation with ionic trace minerals may help clear food allergies. I have begun to take 'Trace Mineral Research' ionic minerals (liquid form) 3-5 teasp per day, and straight away within the first two days I was feeling stronger and it seemed that my food intolerances were not bothering me much anymore, despite eating some offending foods. Whether this is temporary or completely heals my allergies and intolerances remains to be seen. Check mineral deficiencies link for updates.

There is a chart of food allergens and which minerals, vitamins, amino acids and herbs to use as antidotes, here: Body & Soul Reconnection: 'Food Allergies Can Be Reversed'. The author of the website writes:

"What I have discovered in working with different clients who have food 'allergies' is that they are truly not allergic to the food; it is that their body lacks certain nutrients which do not allow it to break down food properly. Therefore, the food becomes toxic-like. There are cases where there is something defective in the small intestine which causes food breakdown issues, but in about 80% of the cases this is not it." - Lu Martinez
"It usually takes about 4-8 weeks to totally correct food sensitivity. Most of the nutrients that are deficient need to be ingested at therapeutic levels. This means usually 2-5 times higher than the recommended daily amounts." - Lu Martinez

Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride says that 99% of food allegies can be reversed with diet and probiotics.

The 'Allergy UK' charity has advice on allergies and intolerances on their website and they also have a helpline you can call. I called them about histamine intolerance and they recommended seeing a dietitian on the NHS (National Health Service), who would be able to design an elimination diet for me. Alternatively, she said I could hire a dietitian from the Freelance Dietitians Group. Dietitians in the UK are more highly qualified than nutritionists, as they have to complete a three-year MSc degree before they can call themselves dietitians.

Food Intolerance

Food intolerance is not an allergy. It is "an immune response to undigested protein molecules which erroneously enter the blood stream or lymphatic system." "The immune response triggers pro-inflammatory cytokines to neutralize the food, but in the process blocks the insulin receptors and stops glucose from entering the cells to be used as energy. Instead, glucose is converted into fat and stored in the fat cells. The result: you get fatter and have no energy."

"The cytokines use the 'feel good' neurotransmitter, serotonin, to communicate with each other. Serotonin regulates appetite and cravings for carbohydrates. When serotonin is used by the immune system instead of being used as a neurotransmitter, you experience a serotonin deficit in the brain, which leads to cravings for carbohydrate-containing foods, typically gluten and dairy. [...] There is also a dopamine connection which makes you feel addicted to that food..."

- Dana James, on Mindbodygreen.com

Food intolerances can be identified by using this free home test and once recognised, the avoidance of the offending foods will cure the symptoms. Sometimes the food intolerances clear up after abstaining from the symptom-causing foods for four months or more, and they can then be reintroduced into the diet. Note that food intolerances cause addictions, so quite often you are intolerant to foods that you eat a lot of and really crave. The cravings will clear up once the intolerance clears.

Books: The Food Intolerance Bible by Antony Hayes. His website is www.foodintolerancebible.com.

Note that various types of food intolerance tests have been developed and advertised, some of them very expensive. There is much doubt about how well these work or whether they work at all. I have found the Pulse Test to be very helpful, which is a test one can do at home for free. Alternative tests, which may not be effective, are: the much-advertised 'York Test', muscle testing, bioresonance feedback, etc.

The only food intolerances a generic doctor will test for are: lactose intolerance and gluten intolerance, however, there are many more food intolerances, e.g. intolerance to sulfites, histamines, preservatives, nightshades, celery, carrots, wheat, grains, dairy, eggs, tomatoes, soy, etc.

Food intolerance may be due to eating too much of certain food and 'a four-week rotation diet' may help to reduce symptoms and recognise offending foods. Often the complete avoidance of the offending food for many months (or even a year or two) will eliminate the intolerance permanently - although this is not the case for all intolerances.

There are reports online of people overcoming their lactose intolerance (and even gluten intolerance) by healing their gut. Imbalanced gut microbiome is said to be the cause of food intolerance and its related symptoms, e.g. rapid heart beat, anxiety, fatigue, inflammation, etc. Note that food intolerance may be the underlying cause of many more serious 'symptoms' too, e.g. heart disease, thyroid imbalances, mental problems, autoimmune disease, migraines, and various other diseases.

To overcome intestinal dysbiosis, which seems to - according to some reports - be the cause of food intolerance, see: intestinal dysbiosis. Specifically, people reported the following to help in clearing food intolerances: 1) avoiding the offending foods, 2) taking good-quality probiotics, 3) following the GAPS diet and 4) taking gelatin-rich foods (or their vegan alternatives) to give the gut a protective coating. The website quoted below recommends homemade bone broth or grass-fed gelatin powder. However, gel-like substances from plant may work just as well or better. Aloe vera gel or juice has shown great promise for healing a damaged gut (ulcers, leaky gut, etc.)

"Gelatin heals and seals the mucosal lining of the intestinal tract, and aids in the assimilation of nutrients. It's also an easily digestible protein that works as an anti-inflammatory as well. Gelatin is vital to heal a damaged gut." - Weedemandreap.com: '3 Surprising Ways to Heal Food Allergies'

I have found my food intolerance symptoms to clear quickly by taking GABA and/or HerbPharm's 'Thyroid Calming Tincture' (active ingredients: bugleweed flowering herb (lycopus spp), motherwort leaf and flower (leonurus cardiaca), cactus stem (selenicereus spp), lemon balm leaf and flowering top (melissa officinalis)). This clears the immediate symptoms, i.e. fast heartbeat (palpitations), anxiety & irritability, fatigue, general feeling of unwell, and insomnia (but only when caused by a specific food). Longer-term symptoms may still be there.

Taking good-quality digestive enzymes before eating an offending food often helps a lot, though not always.

I have begun to take ionic trace minerals recently, which seems to lessen my food intolerance symptoms a lot and make me feel stronger in general. I take quite high doses, more than recommended in the bottle, i.e. 3 teasp per day mixed in water. I have only taken the minerals for one day so far but will report on whether they made a difference long-term - check for updates under: mineral deficiencies.

Some people reported that a water fast cleared their food intolerances. I tried this - water fasted for seven days - but found that it didn't help in my case.

Gas

Gas can be caused by many things, including certain food items, such as beans or raw beetroots.

Food intolerances should be checked for and the health of the digestive system addressed in general.

Constipation is one of the typical causes of flatulence (gas).

Leaky gut syndrome may be behind more chronic gas problems.

Activated charcoal capsules have often proven quite helpful as a temporary remedy to help speed up the elimination of gas from the intestines. For a long-term solution, the health of the digestive system as a whole needs to be addressed.

General Health Problems

Dr. Robert Rowen: "I believe that the fundamental cure for almost every condition is getting the body to burn oxygen. You burn oxygen - you make energy - you feel better. Oxidation therapy is a system that's with virtually no risks [...] They can stimulate better circulation and better immune system. They actually turn on mitochondrial processes. If you look at the blood levels of lactate and pyruvate after you go through oxidation, these reduce. The only way they can reduce is if you're turning on mitochondria [energy production]" (6)

Gum Disease

Key to healing gum disease is to work with your dentist and hygienist first of all. Secondly, some specialist dentist clinics may offer more effective remedies in killing and eliminating the bacteria that cause gum disease, for example, I found a clinic in the UK which places trays in the mouth with hydrogen peroxide solution in (food grade, diluted), which is held in place for a certain period of time and done regularly. They claim the method is very effective and I suppose one could try buying trays online (you can also purchase ones made to the shape of your teeth and gums online) and holding hydrogen peroxide solution in those. Note: You will do this at your own risk, please research further first. I don't know if it's safe! In any case buy the hydrogen peroxide from a pharmacy and discuss the correct one to use with the pharmacist.

In addition, anything that kills bacteria may be useful. Some essential oils are very effective antibacterials, you might try oregano oil (careful it burns your lips), cinnamon, clove, tea tree, etc.

Both silver colloids and ozone water kill bacteria very effectively, though each is needed for a different length of time on different bacteria to be effective.

With gum disease it is important to get the antibacterials deep into the gums, therefore holding different solutions in your mouth may allow them to slowly be absorbed into the gums. The bacteria are usually hiding quite deep. Also, proper cleaning of gums is important and water jet cleaners can be used instead of dental floss ('oral irrigators').

It is also important to eat mineral rich foods and to take multi-mineral supplements, e.g. natural ionic trace minerals (liquid) and magnesium. Your teeth are made of many different minerals, not just calcium. Important: Also follow the additional tooth health tips here: Tooth Decay and Toothache.
